With the power and flexibility of Web 3D you can create 3D graphics for business presentations, documents, CD-ROM projects, and for multimedia applications. This is a great program for the money. My first experience with it was in the early 90's. During the software installation of aDiamond Multimedia VGA card I was asked if I wanted to install this program called "Asymetrix 3D/FX". I read the short description on the screen and proceeded with the installation simply out of curiosity. Needless to say, I immediately fell in love with it. Actually, it was the Asymetrix 3D/FX 1.0 that I used to create the logo which appears at the top of these webpages. The original program was written to function in Windows 3.x and worked fairly well in early versions of Windows 95. Later the Asymetrix company came out with their Web 3D Version 2.0. This program was to be a coupling of the 3D/FX program and a previous version of their Web 3D software. They were successful in making the one program do the functions of both, but... one bad thing happened in the process. At least this is what I think.

The original Asymetrix 3D/FX was gaining in popularity. It was bundled with a number of different products of great notoriety. At one time a simplified version could be obtained with some Diamond Multimedia VGA cards, Matrox VGA cards, and the Pinnacle Systems miroVIDEO DC10 video capture card. Obviously Pinnacle was the one company to see the value of this program in creating good quality motion 3D graphics and titling. And, it is my belief that the program could have reached greater heights if not for one single thing the company chose to do. Simply said, they changed the name to something that they believed reflected the times while maintaining the programs integrity - Asymetrix Web 3D^tm 2.0. From that day forward the program was pigeon-holed as a web graphics program with only those capabilities - web stuff. Why buy a web-type program when you need a program to create interesting 3D graphics and titles for your video projects? Nowhere on the packaging did it say, "Still great for making those 3D graphics and titles that can be output to .AVI files for later use in your non-linear editor!" Oops! I think they messed up! Sometime later Asymetrix decided to shelve the program and discontinue its' sale.

Any of the animations that you create within Asymetrix Web 3D 2.0 can be output to an .AVI file using any number of software, and hardware codecs which are loaded on your system. Or, you can choose to outupt to a full frame uncompressed file for use in your NLE programs. With all the great new features they added into Web 3D 2.0 you can achieve television quality lighting effects for your video files. It's great for 3D titling!
