VCE History

Visual Concept Entertainment began in 1982 after founder Peter Kuran finished work as animation supervisor for Industrial Light and Magic (ILM) on George Lucas' The Empire Strikes Back. Kuran started his career in 1976 working as an animator on the original Star Wars.

Since that time, Peter and VCE have worked on over 250 theatrical motion pictures including both "Addams Family" films and all three "Robocop" features. The latest feature work from VCE was seen in "Men In Black", "The 6th Day", "Thirteen Days", and "A Beautiful Mind". This year, Peter has won an Academy Award in the Scientific and Technical Achievement category for his RCI Color Restoration Process.

As a filmmaker, Peter has produced five documentaries on the subject of Atomic history, weapons and testing.

In 1995, Peter produced and directed the award winning film "Trinity and Beyond (the Atomic Bomb Movie)" and has since produced "Atomic Filmmakers", "Atomic Journeys" and "Nukes in Space".

Star Wars History 101

In August 1977, a crowd observes C-3PO (Anthony Daniels) immortalize his footprints at Grauman's (now Mann's) Chinese Theater on Hollywood Boulevard. To lend a helping hand, Pete (left) and Charlie Lippincott (Star Wars Promotional director, Right) hold C-3PO steady.

Besides contributing to the film's Oscar winning special effects at the age of 17, Pete was thin enough to fit into the C-3PO costume which gave him the ability to fill in for appearances to help promote Star Wars when Anthony Daniels was unavailable.

Pyromania! is a royalty free collection of fire, explosions, and special effects on CD-ROM. Used by Lucasfilm, NBC, Sony Interactive, HBO, Fox TV, 3D game developers and web designers. Seen recently in the South Park movie as well as in the opening title sequence of the latest James Bond movie, NFL promos and stats, teasers, bumpers, and interactive games.

Visual Concept Engineering has been a leader in producing visual effects for the motion picture industry over the past 20 years. Over 200 motion pictures including: Return Of The Jedi, Robocop, Beetle Juice, The Addams Family, Cliffhanger, Starship Troopers, and most recently, The 6TH DAY, & Thirteen Days!

The images on these disks were photographed for their "organic" quality and are currently difficult if not impossible to recreate successfully or realistically using computer technology.

The Image Files Are Not "Video Captured"!

Each image was originally photographed on 35mm motion picture film. The negatives were scanned at 2K resolution (2048 pixels wide x 1536 pixels high, 72 dpi) and sampled down to lower resolutions. This results in a higher quality image without "video artifacting" or "video quality" as observed in other CD-ROM's utilizing video captured and converted QuickTime™ movies.
