Before the advent of the home video camera all of our family gatherings and vacations were preserved on film. It's fun to see those and relive the memories, but can be a hassle to watch. Most of the time 8mm and Super8 films are on those tiny 3 inch reels that only last about 4 minutes each. Not only are they short, but they also have to be rewound once they have been watched.

The whole process is very time consuming with having to set up the screen, the projector and then the threading of the film in the projector itself. Whew! Just to watch 4 minutes of the kids playing in the backyard, or the family enjoying the ocean waves out on the beach!

Even if you are lucky enough to have all those smaller reels spliced together into larger ones, there's always the chance of the film breaking - or worse yet, the projector breaks down or the bulb burns out. As time goes on there's less and less of a chance to find replacement parts, or repair shops for those old projectors.
